Banyan Tree Phuket:
a special place for a special occasion
For me the Banyan Tree Phuket is one of the top 4 hotels on the island (along with Amanpuri, JW Marriott Phuket and Le Royal Meridien Phuket Yacht Club). It has been voted one of the 'World's Best Places to Stay' by Condé Nast Traveler, the 'Best Overseas Spa' by Luxury Travel Gold List and 'Asia's Best Spa and Vacation Resort' by Asiamoney. If you know the Banyan Tree brand I do not have to say more but if you do not then let me say this is unquestionably the top hotel in the Laguna Phuket resort complex. Situated at the northern end of Bang Tao Beach, it has fantastic villa-style accommodation. Of the hotels here, this one is set back furthest from the sea so you have a gentle stroll to the beach. That is if you can tear yourself away from your Jacuzzi, Pool or from the sumptuous Banyan Tree Spa. The Banyan Tree Spa provides relaxing and rejuvenating treatments and massages in a garden setting.
The hotel accommodation comprises 149 private villas, each with split level king-size bedroom and living room, an open air sunken bath tub and secluded walled garden area. There are 34 Pool Villas (see picture) each with its own 9 x 3 meter swimming pool. The hotel has 5 restaurants ranging from spa cuisine to Pacific Rim seafood and from Thai specialties to Mediterranean flavors. There is one main outdoor swimming pool and a children’s pool. Right next door to the hotel is the Laguna Phuket Golf Club. If I was to give you one negative, for me the hotel feels too formal. Obviously that is very subjective and either someone else will have a different perception, or for another person formal is a good thing. Thankfully we are all different. I recommend the Banyan Tree Phuket particularly to those celebrating a special occasion like a honeymoon, Silver Wedding etc. The accommodation here is so special that you could just lock yourself away in your villa for the whole vacation.
