Chedi Phuket: situated on possibly the best beach on the island

The Chedi Phuket is a ‘must’ for those in search of under-stated charm.

Built on the side of a hill leading down on to Pansea Bay, this collection of 108 individual thatch-roof cottages provides a combination of stylish comfort and rustic charm.

Chedi Phuket Pool

The cottages are built in 4 rows and all of the rooms have a sea view. There are lots of steps so the hotel is not recommended for anyone with walking difficulties nor for small children.

The rooms at the top are the least expensive because they are furthest from the beach and, as you might expect, those on or very close to the beach are the most expensive. At the beach level there are 2-bedroom cottages which are ideal for families.

Facilities include the Sunset Bar, Sunset Cafe, Lomtalay Thai Restaurant and the Beach Restaurant (pictured below).

Chedi Phuket Beach Restaurant

Although the beaches in Thailand are public, the only way to Pansea Bay is from the sea or through the hotel and so, in practice, it is like being on a private beach. The only other hotel here is the Amanpuri, atop a headland at the northern end of the beach.

There are a few local restaurants around a 5-10 minute walk from the hotel or the hotel provides transport to Patong, around 20 minutes drive to the south.

I recommend the Chedi Phuket to those who want something romantic.
