Dusit Laguna Resort Phuket for a taste of Thailand
A deluxe hotel in the Phuket Laguna complex, the Dusit Laguna Resort is my personal favourite in this area. I stayed here last with the family at the end of May 2005. This was our 'support Phuket' visit after
the Tsunami.
So much negative hype had been created after the tragedy that I felt it important to show solidarity with the island and its people. I realise our presence would have made little difference but I could at least come back and tell all-and-sundry that it was perfectly OK to visit Phuket again. This is my particular favourite because, in my opinion, the architecture has more of a Thai flavour than the others in the Laguna. That is important to me because I like a hotel to represent the destination. Although the weather was not brilliant while we were there (it was the beginning of the rainy season), we had a great time. The weather was good enough most of the time to be in the pool (that's Alex below, the lone swimmer), kayaking in the lagoon or just relaxing on the balcony.

The best time, weather-wise, to be here is January – March. During the off-season sea-bathing is not an option because the seas are too dangerous, hence when not in the pool we were in the lagoon at the back of the hotel.A unique feature of the hotel is the Landmark room. These rooms are in effect two guestrooms combined: one is the bedroom and the other a living area. I recommend the
Dusit Laguna Resort
to families and couples who prefer a touch of Thailand.
