Stay at the JW Marriott Phuket and chill out with the turtles
The JW Marriott Phuket is situated on Mai Khao Beach, adjacent to the Sirinath Marine National Park and protected sea turtle nesting ground. The JW Marriott Phuket is the newest luxury hotel on Phuket and it has certainly given the competition something to think about. For a start the hotel sits on a fabulous, long stretch of beach (the longest in Phuket apparently) in an undeveloped part of the island, far away from the high-rise developments of Patong. For the nature-lover, the adjacent National Park has the most natural and unspoilt mangrove forest on the island. Here you can find birds like the Roseate tern, Collared kingfisher, Large-billed crow, and Brahminy kite; snakes and Monitor lizards; and of course Turtles. Adjacent to the Park, offshore, there are coral reefs said to be some of the most pristine found in Phuket province. Back on dry land, the JW Marriott Phuket occupies some 11 hectares and the low-rise buildings of Thai contemporary design comprise 265 large guestrooms, a selection of restaurants and the indulgent Mandara Spa. This complex covers around 750 square meters (8,100 square feet) and includes five private double treatment suites and a full service beauty salon. Now I haven’t been fortunate enough to stay at the JW Marriott Phuket(yet!) and so here are some comments from a guest, Stuart Sheach from the UK, who stayed at the JW Marriott Phuket this year (2006):
“The service is immaculate. The gracious and charming manners of Thai people are in evidence from all members of the staff…..Housekeeping. A highlight of our stay….Our maid spent up to 2 hours a day sorting our suite into pristine shape….Concierge. Fast, efficient, immaculate. Nothing was too much trouble. [Our] Suite: Sumptuous, stunning and wonderfully air conditioned. Suite 177 had 22 windows, 18 of them overlooking the beautiful Andaman sea, the remaining 4 in the bathroom! How wonderful to have a bathroom with natural sunlight. Our suite had an outside gate with close proximity to the sea, a private spirit temple, two sun loungers on a large private terrace and a fan cooled 'sala'. Inside, the huge 6', 7 pillowed bed, pale green and gold Jim Thompson fabrics, open plan 4 seater dining area and excellent desk and lounge provision all contributed to a truly luxurious experience.”
Thank you Stuart for allowing me to quote you. I think we can conclude you liked the hotel!
Thai Cooking School
An interesting facility, added in June 2006, is the Ginja Cook, an on-site Thai cooking school. Located next to the Ginja Taste Thai restaurant, the school has 4 cooking stations each of which can accommodate 2 students. The ‘school’ is built in traditional design in the style of a typical Thai Sala using teakwood as its main material. There are floor to ceiling glass sliding doors which provide natural light and which look out onto the resort’s gardens and the Andaman Sea. Thai cooking courses are held at the JW Marriott Phuket daily (except during the busy Christmas-New Year period) from Monday to Saturday from 8.00 am – 2.00 pm.; and each day will focus on a different dish. I have listed below the current schedule but it can of course change. This is truly one of the best hotels on the island but only consider the
JW Marriott Phuket
if the idea of a secluded location appeals.
