I am sorry if you think I am being unfair to Patong Beach but I believe it has been over-developed. It does have its plus points - lots of shopping and restaurants - but for me there is just too much of it. Maybe it's my age :-). Interestingly most of the development on Phuket's Karon Beach has been across the road from the beach. At the northern end, the buildings are a good way back because of a small lagoon. Travelling south there is a small conurbation, and then a long stretch of beach with a handful of hotels including the Hilton Phuket Arcadia Resort & Spa. This hotel used to be the Phuket Arcadia until Hilton took over the management in 2003/4. I have to admit I do not know the Hilton which, although it is said to be a 5-star, deluxe property, does not have its own page on this site. I never took the time to get to know the Phuket Arcadia because I personally do not like large (685 rooms), high-rise hotels: one of the 3 wings is around 10 storeys high. Although a good point about the hotel, which reflects for me a strength of this resort in general, is that the resort is spread over some 75 acres of gardens. If you know the Hilton it would be great to have your feedback. There are no other hotels here that, in my opinion, qualify for deluxe status; but there are plenty of good 3 and 4 star. One of the few (if not the only) hotels actually on the beach is the Karon Beach Resort tucked away at the southern end. I have not been there for quite some time, but it is a well-established property. So there you have it: my brief summary of Karon Beach. If you are looking for high-end accommodation here you have just one possible option, Hilton Phuket Arcadia Resort & Spa: you might care to find out what other guests say about the hotel by visiting
