Favourite Phuket beach

I cannot say that one particular Phuket beach is THE best because I haven’t visited them all – well not yet anyway. But I can tell you that of the ones I have visited, I do have a favourite.

You will find Phuket’s sandy beaches run from the north west coast right the way down to the south east corner. (See the Phuket Map)

The best known is of course Patong Beach around the middle of the west coast but when I judge a beach I am not just looking at the quality of the sand, I am looking at the whole deal. As I mention elsewhere, Patong is a very lively place, just like a large town really so as you can imagine the beach can get quite busy. And busy is not what I look for in a beach.

No, what I look for is good quality sand, quiet but with some facilities (yes, I know this can sometimes be contradictory) and a beautiful setting.

That is why for me the best Phuket beach is the one at Pansea Bay.

I haven’t got a picture to do the beach justice but I hope to have one soon.

The bay is relatively small and has just two hotels, The Chedi Phuket and the Amanpuri. The sand quality is good and the low-rise hotel buildings blend into the vegetation.

Naturally, this really is only of interest if you are staying at one of these two hotels because, unless you arrive by boat, access is via one of these resorts. And, if you are not a guest, they wouldn’t be too impressed if you just wander through. Not even if you tell them I sent you! :o)

OK, so I had better give you some more (in my opinion) good beaches although I’ll just mention that during low season (see Phuket weather) flotsam and jetsam is washed ashore so none of the beaches at this time are really at their best. It is also potentially very dangerous to go in the sea at that time.

Bang Tao beach is good for those who enjoy a long romantic walk.

Surin Beach is another long beach if you can be bothered to walk along it. Me, I’ll just sit at one of the bars and enjoy a cold drink thank you very much.

Nai Thorn Beach. Now here is an interesting one. I haven’t personally visited this yet but if it’s good enough to be featured in two movies I’ll definitely visit next time. Maybe I’ll even stay at the Andaman White Beach Resort !
