Perhaps best known for its direct pool-access rooms, Sheraton Grande Laguna Phuket has a whole lot more besides. There are 5 room-types in the main hotel with a total of 252 rooms; and then there are another 3 room-types in the Grande Villas, which is a hotel-within-a-hotel, with a total of 83 rooms. In addition to that there are
Private Villas and Residences.
The resort covers around 40 acres and is surrounded by lagoons. The last time I was there I paddled a kayak right the way around but don’t worry that was from choice! For the most part transport is by complimentary shuttle buses and motorised boats.
There are 6 restaurants including Thai, Chinese, Italian, Asian and Western. Although when we were there it was low-season and some were closed. The open-air Asia Market Place concept doesn’t work so well if there is a chance it might rain! We had an Asian buffet at the Birds of Paradise instead: I am not a buffet fan but this one was good.The most distinctive feature of this hotel for me is the way the swimming pools weave through the property which gives guests the opportunity to have a room with direct pool access. All the rooms are a minimum 40 sq m and the choices are: Garden view
Lagoon view (with balcony)
Luxury (larger rooms with a view of garden, pool or lagoon)
Pool Access (from balcony to pool!)
Ocean View (on the edge of the lagoon with views across to the sea). See picture below.
Sheraton Grande Laguna Phuket - Grande Villas
A hotel-within-a-hotel: guests at the Grande Villas have exclusive access to their own swimming pool and included in the room rate is: - Complimentary buffet breakfast
- Complimentary croissant delivered to your room
- Separate check-in (by boat if the weather is OK)
- Complimentary lemongrass ice tea and mineral water served, during the day, at the private Villa pool
- Tropical fruits and refresher towels served at the Villa pool three times daily
- Complimentary hors d'oeuvres and tropical cocktails during sunset hour
- And you can even get help packing and unpacking.
The choice of accommodation here is:
Lagoon Villas. One bedroom with a living/dining area. As these rooms are built right on the edge of the lagoon, children under 12 are not permitted. Anyway these are great for honeymooners.
Island Villas. Two bedrooms, each with en suite, and a spacious living area between the two rooms. These are perfect for families as they can accommodate either up to 4 adults or 2 adults with 2 children. There are also some Pool villas with direct access to the private Villa pool but again, on safety grounds, children under 12 are not permitted in these particular rooms.
Other facilities in the hotel include: complimentary catamarans, dinghies or windsurfers, available either from the hotel's beach or on the lagoon; tennis; snooker; a Fitness centre, Angsana Spa, Interactive Game Room, children’s club and, of course, access to the Laguna Phuket Golf Club. My personal preference is for smaller hotels but for those, like my wife and son, who prefer lots going on then the Sheraton Grande Laguna Phuket has plenty lot to offer, and there are some very distinctive accommodation choices.
